Planning and Environmental Consultants

Minerals Sector

Minerals naturally occur and are sourced from drilling and mining operations. ACT’s forte is gaining the planning permissions and permits required to win, work and process aggregate. Reuse and recycling of aggregate continues to be a growing market driven by Directives, Regulations, primary aggregate costs, disposal options and charges, transport rates, and accepted secondary aggregate testing standards, quality systems and the significant benefits of ‘End of Waste’ status to name a few. Recent Regulations have revised the qualification grounds of once exempt aggregate processing activities that now fall within a Permit remit and are subject to a ‘transitional period’. Our Matrix offers guidance on dates certain exemptions expire and the options available to the operator.

Everyone knows the virtues of aggregates from the roads we drive, the buildings we use and the paths we walk. However, development proposals for the required quarries and processing facilities are rarely receive with enthusiasm.

Minerals SectorSuccessfully attaining planning permission for a quarry or mineral handling facility requires careful advanced preparation and a very structured approach. Each existing and potential site is different with unique traits that personalise an application and the component considerations. The assessments of environmental impacts can span several seasons, sometimes years and must be comprehensive from the outset.

Minerals Sector

Mineral quarrying and processing activities, like Waste facilities and Energy generation schemes, can be very emotive subjects and attract significant public attention. A successful application is commensurate with a detailed site evaluation including Lease documentation and Terms, a comprehensive project assessment and design, need and policy compilation and the efficient project management of all interfaces that includes economic and practical deliverability.

ACT has successfully delivered planning permissions and permits for processing and handling facilities through to quarrying permissions. We identify sites on behalf of clients and have provided an abundance of opinions on potential and existing developments. ACT’s environmental support services demonstrate operating compliance and our meticulous approach to permitting continues to deliver operational and economic benefits to our clients.
